Ok, this mission has been giving me real problems. I'm lucky if I can make it halfway through without my party being wiped out (henchmen). The biggest problem I have is getting through all the large groups of monsters (moss scarabs/wind riders + other junk). If anybody has any advice about this mission it would be greatly appreciated. Btw, I'm a lvl 14 R/E if that helps. Also, I'd prefer to use henchmen as I tend to find it less frustrating than PU groups.

I used the search function to find some more help on The Wilds mission but only found people having problems and not much answers. I know the following points are for The Wilds:

Quote:
X. The Wilds

Objectives
Hunt down the Shining Blade kidnappers, and rescue the Chosen they have taken hostage.
• Chase the fleeing Shining Blade.
• Rescue the Chosen.
• Discover how the Shining Blade navigate the Jungle.
• *BONUS* Defeat the two centaur Chieftains.
The problem I'm having is the bolded point. It's not bad getting past all the mobs and such with a human group, but everytime we try, we're all just walking in circles. Any tips on navigating through this mission? One person on my team once kept saying "Follow the lights" but anyone wanna clarify on that?

I did it with henchmen Saturday but it is a really tough one. Level 14 may be a bit low. You have to keep the two knights alive to get through the first two areas. They run really fast so it can be a pain. Advance very slow and when the scarabs aggro run back then hold ground. Right after the cut scene you need to watch the horsemen and pick a right time to run by or kill them.

If you get a what looks bad on radar hang in a safe area for awhile. Jungle trolls drop fast if you have a mage. It took me little over an hour to complete it but like I said you really need to use a lot of planing on which mobs you pull and in what order.

Good luck.

Just so you know I made it to Elona Reach today with henchmen so it is possible.

EDIT:

OH for how to get there. You need to travel to the pod trees. Where ever you see a circle on the ground you need a pod seed to drop there to make a bridge. Be warned Scarb spawn when you grab a seed.

on a side note, you don't have to actually use the seed pods, you can get through the wilds without growing a single bridge (bloodstone fen on the other hand ), just get down into the water, if memory serves, it'll pretty much take you right where you want to go, and you'll get a regen bonus while you stand in it

Time to complete wilds with henchman: 2+ hours assuming you make it to the end

Time to complete wilds with decent people: 18 mins or less

The difference is a group of people kill much quicker, henchman are pretty weak and slow. Maybe its' a combination of their low level and single class.

The Shining Blade uses some magical seeds to grow bridges in the jungle. And you don't need those seeds in this mission, it happens in your next mission. Exploring...you'll have to do that on your own..

Moss scarbs, bring mesmer with you, Shatter Hex do major damage to them. Elementists works just as well, just more cast time, which easily interrupted by Windriders. Windriders, you'll need warriors, as their adrenaline skills won't get interrupted by cry of frustration.

It took less than 30 min to run this mission with henchmen.

I had more trouble with this mission than any other to that point. But with practice, mostly in seperating out groups, pulling, and avoiding adds, I eventually got through it with henchmen. It's possible if you take your time and learn the level.

There are a few chokepoints that will get you in the middle of three groups if you aren't careful. Watch their movement, rush in to aggro one group, and pull back without engaging. Keep pullling back or your hencmen might rush in.

It's slow going, but it's stuff you'll do a lot of in this game if you like playing with henchmen.

BTW I had my worst pick-up-group experiences on this mission. There just is no room for error, so you really need a tight group.

Maybe you should go back and do a couple of bonuses or quests to pick up a few levels. I think I was at least 16 at that point. Good Luck.

I completed this mission with henchmen also. I just took a lot of fire magic skills and that worked out well. Haven't done the bonus yet...

That part near the end is a bit confusing. It's hard to tell you which way to turn without drawing it on a map, and I can't do that right now =P. Just use your minimap and try to go places you haven't gone yet. You'll know you're goinig the right way when you hear the Shining Blade talk.

You do need the seed if you want to complete the bonus...
